Darren Street said he was incensed over the treatment of Ashley Street-Mason, 12, by King Edward VI High School.

But headteacher Russell Davis has defended the school’s actions as he says it is clearly stated in the school rules that tramlines are banned.

Mr Street told the Newsletter his son had the two shaven lines put into his hair two weeks ago and they were noticed by the school last Thursday Since then his son has been separated from other pupils and put into a room with a teacher to do his work until his hair grows or is cut.

Mr Street said: “I fully understand there are rules and I support that but this is over the top.”

Mr Davis said: “We have high standards and school policies show that such hairstyles are not allowed. It was clearly explained to pupils in the past and information has previously been sent to parents.

“Ashley was withdrawn from lessons and completed his work in a separate area and was supervised.

“This is a rule that we have to enforce. If he was to go into lessons and other pupils saw the tramlines we could potentially have a problem in the rest of the school.”
