The 92-year-old, who has been volunteering in Penkridge for more than 80 years, was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June last year.

The first organisation she helped in 1928 was the League of Little Kindnesses.

Since then she has knitted blankets for Katharine House Hospice, made clothes for Stafford Hospital’s premature baby ward, taken part in dog walks and helped raise money to send a disabled child to Lapland.

At the age of 84 she did a 60-mile sponsored ride on the back of a motorbike.

Mrs Stone travelled to Buckingham Palace last week to collect her medal from Prince Charles.
