DODGY dealers conned residents into handing over cash for a non-existent laptop computer and mobile phones in Stafford.
In two separate thefts at Stafford Common boot sale in Stone Road, the bogus sellers approached victims asking if they wanted to buy any of the items they had in a bag.
The victims agreed and went to a nearby cash point. When they handed over the money the thieves gave them the bag and drove off. But the bag was empty.
It is believed there are three men involved in the scam, all described as white, Eastern European, with dark hair, in their late 20s to early 30s and around 5ft 8ins to 5ft 11ins tall. Two are described as medium build, one slightly larger.
Their car is described as a light-coloured Ford Mondeo hatchback. It has a dent on the rear passenger door and a front wheel trim missing.
Two lots of victims were conned in the scam, one on September 16 and the other on September 30, and it has prompted warnings from police.
