TWO men smashed their way into a Rugeley building society last night wearing balaclavas and armed with a crowbar and a sledge hammer before making off with a quantity of cash.

The robbery, at the Nationwide in Brook Square, happened at around 7.25pm after the branch closed.
A spokesman for the police said: “Security guards were delivering cash to the branch and were inside the building when two offenders smashed the front door and approached them, demanding cash.
“The guards handed over a quantity of cash and the robbers ran off between Coral bookmakers and Barclays Bank towards the car park off Wellington Drive,” he said. “It is believed the offenders may have used a silver estate-type vehicle.”
Both men, along with a third who stood outside throughout the robbery wore black balaclavas, clothes and shoes.
The guards were not harmed during the incident.
Officers carrying out inquiries into the robbery are asking anyone who saw the offenders before or after the incident to call 101 quoting incident number 623 of 3 December or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
