The station is the final part of a £50 million scheme by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service to create 11 new stations across the county, including Stone and Penkridge.

Rugeley’s new station will be built on the existing site and will include a training area for firefighters, a community room, gym and a memorial garden.

Work is due to start in June.

The station is part of a second private finance initiative (PFI) funded project.

The contractor, Blue3, will be responsible for the design, construction and ongoing maintenance of the new building.

PFI project manager Norma Putman said: “We are delighted that the last planning approval has been awarded and look forward to giving the residents of Rugeley and surrounding areas a community fire station they can be proud of and they can use.”

Stafford’s Rising Brook Community Fire Station was built as part of the first PFI scheme.
