Shop hit twice in one week

A WEEK of woe for a husband and wife run farm shop in Milford began with flooding outside the shop and ended when they were hit by a gang of organised shoplifters.

online generic 3Dave and Sharon Meakin, only opened Simple Delights at Home Farm on Main Road five weeks ago.

Their problems began when the heavy rain started last week, and a blocked drain outside the shop caused large puddles of water to form and making access to the shop difficult.

“It happens every time it rains,” said Mr Meakin. “I’ve called the council over and over again to come and fix it. If people can’t get into my shop, I can’t make a living.”

Repairmen from the council and Severn Trent Water finally came over the weekend and fixed the problem.

Then on Sunday, the couple’s shop was hit by an organised gang of shoplifters who stole nearly £200 of stock, leaving Mrs Meakin scared to work there alone.

Mr Meakin said “It left my wife in tears.”

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said they were investigating the incident and described the seven men as having an Eastern European appearance.

Items stolen from the shop included a quantity of meat, cooking oils, tooth- brushes and toothpaste and washing powder.
