Stafford MP launches working group to engage with hospital regulators

Written byBy Robin Scott

STAFFORD’S MP pledged to set up a working group to engage with Monitor after the financial regulator stepped in to solve the cash crisis at Stafford Hospital.

The group, which he will chair, is open to anyone interested in playing a constructive role in the future of Mid Stafforshire NHS Foundation Trust and the two hospitals it controls in Stafford and Cannock.

Mr Lefroy said: "It is vital that we make the strongest possible case for emergency, acute and elective services at Stafford and Cannock hospitals.”

He said it was more important than ever in light of today’s decision by commissioners not to reopen Stafford Hospital’s A&E department overnight.

“That is why I have established this working group,” he said. “It is entirely non-political and is simply aiming to achieve the best result for the people of Stafford, Cannock and the surrounding areas which depend on our hospitals.”

He said he expected to call the first meeting in the coming days adding that anyone who wished to be involved should email jeremy.lefroy.mp@parliament.uk.
