STAFFORD’S MP said he would work hard with residents concerned about the route of HS2 and continue to campaign for a direct stop in Staffordshire on the new high-speed line.
Jeremy Lefroy said he knew the announcement of the proposed route was a concern to residents, especially those in the Haywoods, Hopton, Ingestre, Marston and Yarlet and pledged to continue to represent those people to the Government.
“With any major infrastructure project the Government has to balance the benefit to the country against the impact on individuals, businesses and the environment,” he said. “I will be fighting for Staffordshire to make sure we get that balance right and that people who are impacted will be appropriately and efficiently compensated.”
Mr Lefroy said he had been making the case to Government since his election that any high speed route passing through the region needed to serve North Staffordshire.
“It is therefore welcome news today that Stafford is being listed as a High Speed destination, served by the phase one line and the connection to the West Coast Main Line.
“Stafford is a destination for business and our place on the high speed map will be welcome news for investors and jobs.
“However, I will continue to campaign for a direct stop on the high speed line in Staffordshire so we can maximise the gain for the whole region.”
