STAFFORD Prison’s annual report by the Independent Monitoring Board found education was excellent but there were concerns about the effects of cuts.
The board ensures inmates are treated humanely and reports any concerns to the secretary of state.
Members have access to every prisoner and every part of the prison.
Inspectors said education was excellent and the waste management unit was environmentally friendly and profit making.
Concerns were raised about the completion of the treatment room on C wing and the provision of increased dental sessions by a permanent dentist.
The board was also worried that cuts were affecting staff morale and asked ministers for assurances prisoners won’t suffer as a result.
The category C prison, with 741 inmates, was visited in April.
