STAFFORDSHIRE’S new police tsar Matthew Ellis took up his new role today after being sworn in during an official ceremony at Police HQ.
Mr Ellis, who triumphed in an election last week that saw a country-wide low 11.9 per cent turnout, swore an oath of office in front of a magistrate to serve the people of Staffordshire in a fair and transparent way.
“During the next three years it’s important that people across all of Staffordshire see the positive difference this new role can make,” he said. “It’s about working with police and other agencies to ensure crime continues to fall and people feel safer with an even more responsive police service.”
Mr Ellis said he would be concentrating on increasing police visibility across the county, reducing reoffending and preventing crime from happening in the first place.
“The public sector has major challenges as budgets shrink and it reinforces the need to ensure every public pound is used better to make the very most of the resources available,” he said.
Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police Mike Cunningham welcomed Mr Ellis to the job and said he was looking forward to working closely with him to keep the people of Staffordshire safe and reassured.
