STONE’S MP has called on Monitor to support its claims that Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust is 'unsustainable' in its current form with hard evidence.

He said Stafford Hospital must continue to serve the people of the area and requested a full statement to support the latest conclusions.
“Stafford Hospital must continue to serve my constituents, offering emergency and acute services,” he said. “It is imperative that experts advising Monitor release their report demonstrating the basis for why they believe the trust is unable to achieve its longer term financial or clinical sustainability in its current form.”
Mr Cash said he had written to Monitor to ask if they would release the report which is due out early next year.
“Without that report, I am puzzled as to why we are told that the trust faces problems with its long term sustainability yet not presented with the underlying evidence or rationale for why they hold that view.
“A full statement is required.”
He added the work of the Stafford Hospital Working Group set up by MP Jeremy Lefroy had already demonstrated that the need for acute and emergency services in the areas served by the hospital would continue to increase in the coming years.
