Teacher leaves in photos dispute

A teacher at Stafford Grammar School has left amid controversy over “inappropriate photographs”.

Generic online latest newsParents and pupils have been left mystified by the sudden departure of religious studies teacher Jim Smith.

Mr Smith was initially suspended and now no longer works at the Burton Manor independent school following an incident before half-term.

It is understood he took a home computer into the school containing photographs that were deemed inappropriate for pupils to see.

It is not known exactly what the photographs depicted but headteacher Michael Darley told the Newsletter this week they were not of a sexual nature as rumoured among parents and pupils.

Mr Darley was unable to comment on how the pictures came to light or whether any students actually saw them.

He said the case was ongoing and Mr Smith had a right to appeal.

He added: “Mr Smith was suspended as a neutral act. He brought a personal laptop computer into the school, which had the potential for pictures to be viewed.

“A disciplinary hearing has been held and the outcome of that is that Mr Smith is no longer employed at the school.

“I cannot discuss the details but I have seen the photographs and can categorically say that they were not of a sexual nature. However, in my view they were inappropriate in school.” The £3,377 a term school provides education for pupils aged 11 to 18.
