TWO teenagers from Stone and Penkridge are looking forward to two busy years representing local young people as Members of the Youth Parliament.
The Staffordshire MYP election results were announced on Friday at a ceremony at County Buildings.
Matt Hall from Aston by Stone won the Stafford Borough and South Staffordshire election, while Luke McCormack from Penkridge was elected Deputy MYP for the area.
Matt, 16, who attends Denstone College, said: “I want to thank everyone who voted for me, my mum and dad, friends Tom, Will, Tom, Harry, Mia and Emily, and my politics teacher Mr Porter.
“I really want to move forward with my policy of making train travel cheaper, and develop a phone app that tells people in Staffordshire what’s going on in their local area.
"My work now is to fulfil my promises and make people feel proud that they voted for me.”
Wolgarston High School student Luke, 15, said: “I’m quite proud to get elected deputy in the first year I have stood.
I want to help make transport cheaper and help young people get into jobs.”
In total four MYPs and four deputy MYPs were elected to represent young people in their local areas, plus a fifth MYP to cover the whole county.
They will represent the county in the West Midlands Youth Parliament and will also sit on Staffordshire’s Youth Action Kouncil (YAK), the young person’s advisory body to Staffordshire County Council.
