Tool thieves use electronic device to block key fobs

VAN-OWNERS should be vigilant when securing vehicles with key fobs as tool thieves may be using devices to block the signal to lock.

A spokesman from Staffordshire Police urged people to remove tools when leaving vehicles unattended for long periods, recommending keeping them in lockable, alarmed storing areas.

He said not to assume vehicles had locked properly with a fob and to always double-check, parking in a garage of well-lit area where possible.

He added, marking tools and equipment with engraving, chemical etching or forensic marking kits, and then leaving a sign to say you had done so, could also prove a very effective deterrent.
