STAFFORD Hospital bosses are warning people with symptoms of Norovirus to stay away after the second outbreak of the vomiting virus this winter.

Director of Nursing Colin Ovington said people who had recently experienced nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea should not visit the hospital in order to prevent further spread of the infection.
“If you have had any of these symptoms, or know anyone who has, we would ask you to try and avoid coming to either of our hospitals – especially as a visitor.”
Both ward 10 and the pre-discharge ward are currently closed to admission, transfer and discharge to nursing and residential homes, with visiting currently limited due to the presence of the virus.
The news comes a week after University Hospitals of North Staffordshire closed four of its own wards to the gastrointestinal infection which has no specific treatment, although drinking water is recommended to replace fluids lost through diarrhoea and vomiting, preventing dehydration, particularly in cases where the young or elderly are infected.
