Until now, families in Woodseaves wanting to send their youngsters to pre-school have had to travel to Gnosall, Eccleshall or Forton for their nearest facility.

But on Monday former Eccleshall pre-school assistant Zoe Keay and childminder Adi Harris, who both have children at Woodseaves School, will be launching their own pre-school at the village’s Methodist chapel.

Local councillor Mark Winnington will be officially opening the new facility, which will also provide youngsters with a taste of what is to come when they enter school, Mrs Keay said.

“We will be taking the children for lunch at Woodseaves School every day,” she said. “We will also be using their fields for sports and an area outside the school for an outdoor classroom for gardening.

“We’re really excited about opening the pre-school. There was no childcare provision for two to four-year-olds in the village so this is a first.

“We sent out some flyers to see if there was a need for the pre-school and got quite a response.

“We can take up to 20 children and we currently have 12 on the books, which is fantastic.

“We will be open five days a week, from 9am to 1pm, and we are hoping to get people in to do demonstrations, such as cooking, and members of the Woodseaves community with different skills. It will be really community-based.”
