Penkridge parish councillors gave the go-ahead to a number of grants during a meeting last week.

Among those to benefit was the Rainbow Parent and Carer group, which received £250 towards general costs.

The group, based at the scout hut, provides a place for mums and toddlers to meet and get advice but has been struggling to get volunteers to help run it.

Members originally applied for a grant of £500 to fund a helper.

Penkridge Parochial Church Council wasgiven £1,500 towards the upkeep and maintenance of the churchyard, Penkridge Pre-School Playgroup received £250 towards the replacement of equipment and toys, the Samaritans got £250 and Churches Together was given £50 towards room hire costs at the Haling Dene Centre.

Penkridge and District First Responders had their application for £500 turned down. The parish council had already given the charity a grant in October.
