STAFFORD Rangers' new league campaign began with a 2-1 defeat away to AFC Fylde on Saturday.
The hosts, many people's favourite for the Evo-Stik premier title, created the better first half chances.
It was goalless until the 34th minute when a Jamie Rainford shot was well saved by Boro's new keeper Jon Brian, while the follow up from Danny Lloyd struck a post.
In stoppage time at the end of the first period, Brain reacted well to turn over a shot from Joe Booth.
AFC Fylde finally broke the deadlock on 59 minutes when a Lloyd cross was misjudged by the Rangers defence and Harry Winter netted.
However, Rangers responded well and were level two minutes later.
A good run by Alex Steadman picked out Sean KInsella whose shot was blocked by Dave Hankin, before last season's top scorer Danny Quinn snapped up the chance.
But Rangers, who completed the double over AFC Fylde last season, were denied a opening day point wheers n Lloyd pounced for the winner.
Rangers open their home league programme at home to Barwell on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
