FASHION store Peacocks is returning to Stafford but this time will be in the town centre.

The shop, which sells men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, is due to open in Gaolgate Street soon.

A firm opening date is yet to be confirmed but it is understood the store will open in a matter of months.

There used to be a Peacocks store at Queens Retail Park but it shut down two years ago as part of a raft of closures across the country.

It is good news for the town, which had lost a number of stores from the town centre, including Next, which moved out after opening at Queens Retail Park.

The new multi-million pound Riverside development will include a new flagship Marks & Spencer store, a Debenhams, H&M, River Island and Arcadia trading as Outfit.
