PENKRIDGE Parish councillor John McPheat is resigning on May 1 after more than 20 years.

The former chairman, of Mill House Gardens, has made the decision because of family and personal commitments. He told the parish council last week: “I resign with a heavy heart. I have been chairman, which was a great honour. I will miss these meetings.”

He was presented with a special certificate by current chairman Sandra Chambers who said his common sense and wisdom would be greatly missed.
