PENKRIDGE Community First Responders are celebrating five years of saving lives with a garden party.

Since its formation in June 2009, the group, which is run solely by volunteers, has gone from strength to strength and continues to do so with the help of the Friends of Penkridge First Responders group.

Set up by Leigh Rogers along with retired police officer Mike Tym, the group has become one of most successful and well used teams in the county.

They now respond to medical emergencies in areas including Penkridge, Huntington, Cannock, Acton Trussell, Stafford, Hednesford and Rugeley.

So far this year is on course to be their busiest year to date with the number of incidents responded to in the first six months of the year already higher than all of 2013.

The garden party afternoon will be held between 1pm and 4pm next Sunday (23) at the Haling Dene Centre and will feature food and entertainment, including live music, face painting, Zumba demonstrations, a raffle and a barber shop quartet.

Entry is £2 raffle, which includes prizes from local businesses.
