COUNCIL VACANCY: Notice has been given by The Parish Council that there will be an election to fill the vacancy that has arisen in the Penkridge South East Ward. Nomination papers or further information can be obtained from Electoral Services Manager, South Staffs Council, telephone 01902 696000. Any person wishing to be considered for the vacancy should send a written application to the Clerk of the Council giving brief biological details and qualifications to Mrs Lynn Haimes to arrive not later than June 30, 2014. In the absence of any applications the vacancy will be filled by co-option at a meeting of the Parish Council to be held on July 10, 2014.

ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH: An Ascension Day Communion Service is taking place this evening 7.30pm to 8.30pm and ‘Friday Night Live’ praise and fellowship is tomorrow from 7pm. Refreshments and share of food. There is a meeting of The Historic Churches Trust on Monday at 2pm and Bell Ringing practice on Tuesday at 8pm. Fellowship Lunches are on Wednesday 12 noon to 2pm in church, church office to arrange baptisms, funerals or weddings is at 5.30pm and choir practice is at 7.30pm. New Companions drop-in is also on Wednesday at the Church Hall from 1.30pm.
The Ordination Service of Craig Shaw, who is to become the Curate in the Parish, will take place at Lichfield Cathedral on Sunday June 29. A few tickets are still available, anyone wishing to go should speak to Reverend Greg Yerbury as soon as possible.
CARERS' ASSOCIATION: The Self-Awareness and Moving Forward event is taking place again tomorrow at The Haling Dene Centre from 10am to 12 noon. Objects are to identify strengths, goals and positive ways to move forward in life using journaling and meditation. Details from Cynthia on 01785 222365.

RSPCA OPEN DAY: Stafford and Wolverhampton District Branch are holding an open day at a cattery near Penkridge on Sunday from 12 noon to 3pm. The branch is independent of the National RSPCA and is run by volunteers. AIR TRAINING CORPS: New members always welcome at 2415 Squadron who meet on a Monday and a Thursday evening from 7pm at Grange Road. Young people aged 13 years and over can work for gliding scholarships, take part in adventure training, sports, shooting and undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. CHARITY WALK: Keith Burton is now over half way through this year’s walk to raise funds for the cancer charity Macmillan. He began on May 14 and his route to date has taken him via Dufton, Middleton, Middlesbrough, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough. Many owners have afforded him free B & B and he has amassed many donations during the walk, which presently stands at around 145 miles.
