ART WORKSHOP: Local artist Mark Lippett is the tutor at a Charcoal Drawing Workshop being held on Saturday May 17 at The Methodist Church Hall in Penkridge. All abilities are welcome. The cost is £15 per person and the session is from 1pm to 4pm. Telephone 01785 275607 or visit Stafford College to book a place – places need to be booked 7 days prior to workshop date.

VILLAGE EVENTS: The Haling Dene Centre is hosting two events this weekend. On Saturday ‘Let’s Celebrate Penkridge’ takes place from 11am to 3pm and is a free family day out with various organisations taking part to showcase what happens in the village. On Sunday there will be the centre’s first wedding fayre, again from 11am to 3pm, and this is also free entry. There will be a number of exhibitors showcasing all things wedding and this will also be an opportunity to discuss holding your wedding at the Centre.

CIVIC SOCIETY: Members will be meeting next Thursday in The Heritage Centre, formerly The Old Gaol, Bellbrook. The evening’s guest is Sylvia Wood, President of The Stafford Knot Spinners, whose talk is entitled Spinning Tales. Doors open at 7.30pm, refreshments available, entrance fee for visitors is £2.

PENKRIDGE AND DISTRICT RIDING CLUB: The next show of the season is on Sunday and will be a qualifier for NCPA, Equifest, The Royal London, Cricklands and The Your Horse ESUK Grassroots Championships. The Club’s venue for shows this season is Rodbaston Equestrian Centre, Penkridge, Stafford, ST19 5PH, show day mobile number is 07563048024. All classes start at 10am. BUS ROUTES: The local bus routes/times have changed recently. New timetables can be obtained from reception at The Haling Dene Centre, Cannock Road.

RECORDER GROUP: The South Staffs Society of Recorder Players will be meeting on Saturday at the Haling Dene Centre from 2.30pm to 5pm for a playing session. Meetings are for anyone who can read music and play at least one size of recorder. WHIST DRIVE: Members meet in the church hall, Market Street, on a Saturday evening from 7.30pm. new members welcome. Contact Doreen on 01543 505043 for details.

BABY MASSAGE: This popular baby massage course starts again on Monday at the Children’s Centre in the grounds of Princefield First School, Saxon Road. Session start time is 1.45pm. DISCO: Staff from the Out of School Care group which operates from St Michael’s First School have organised a World Cup Themed Disco to take place on Friday May 23 at The Methodist Church Hall. Licensed bar, food and snacks will be available. Family tickets or individual tickets can be purchased from Out of School care or the school office. ROYAL BRITISH LEGION: Members from the Penkridge branch are holding a table top sale at The Peace Memorial Hall on Saturday from 9.30am to midday, refreshments will be available and entrance fee is 30p. All proceeds will go to the Village Poppy Appeal.

The next branch meeting is on Tuesday at 7.30pm in Room 16 at the Haling Dene Centre. Refreshments will be available and the meeting is open to the public – new members welcome. The guest speaker for the evening is Mr Peter Mathews C.M.G. The RBL Staffordshire County President, who will be giving a talk on Canals.

ST MICHAEL’S FIRST SCHOOL: The next PTFA meeting will be held on Wednesday at 6.15pm at the Rectory. Everyone is welcome to attend and children can be bought along. The meeting will focus on the school fayre which will be held on the July 12. Parents can attend a Math’s Workshop tomorrow after Worship which will be focussing on subtraction and addition. The Rugeley Power Station will be in school today to speak to pupils in Year Two and tomorrow staff members from Sainsbury’s Food Store will be attending the assembly to present the Easter Egg competition results.
