Police called out to two 'vulnerable' men on M6 bridges in space of four hours

POLICE attended two separate incidents of vulnerable people on bridges over the M6 last night, engaging with them and ensuring they were taken to a place of safety and given the right support.

Officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group and Staffordshire Police were first called at around 8.25pm to reports of a vulnerable male on an M6 bridge over the A518 near Weston Downs.

The incident was resolved at around 8.50 after officers with CMPG (@CMPG) tweeting the man was ‘safe and well’ shortly afterwards.

Officers found themselves called out again at 11:30pm to a similar incident on the Whitmore Road bridge over the M6 in Hanchurch near Newcastle.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We responded to reports of a man in distress.

“Officers engaged with the man and took him to a place of safety.”

CMPG (@CMPG) again tweeted following the incident to say: “Staffordshire Colleagues have ensured that a male on another Motorway bridge over the M6 is now safe and well and getting the right support.
