POLICE were out in force in Eccleshall on Saturday to ensure a coach-load of football fans behaved themselves when they stopped off in the village en-route to Stoke’s Britannia Stadium.
CI Carl Ratcliffe, match commander on Saturday told the Newsletter: "Patrols engaged on the game came across a coach containing West Brom supporters as it left J14 of the M6 enroute to a licensed premise in Eccleshall.
"As match commander I took the decision that whilst those football supporters were in Eccleshall there would be a police presence,” he said. “At 1pm the supporters were escorted to the Britannia Stadium ahead of the game.
"The police presence reassured the local community and no problems were encountered."
