A police spokesman said: “Extensive searches were made and only the pony was secured in a field.

“We urgently need to trace the other horse and the owner,” she said.

“We need to clarify that the horse is uninjured,” she said. “The headlight of the vehicle was damaged so there was clearly contact.”

Both horses were described as wearing rugs and dark in colour.

Officers who attended the scene initially saw the horse and followed it for a distance before it made good its escape and said they thought it was unharmed.

If you have any info as to the whereabouts of either the horse or owner please contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 59 of November 5.
