CARING students and staff at Weston Road Academy have done their bit to ensure needy local families do not go without this Christmas.

Everyone at the academy was encouraged to donate at least one item of long-life food for Rising Brook Church to hand out to disadvantaged families over the festive period.

Staff were overwhelmed by the generosity of pupils and parents, who have flocked to help, and the food was collected by the church last week.

Vice Principal Andrew Locke said: "This is what makes Christmas special. The feeling of giving, helping and caring for others, at a time of year which can often be so difficult and lonely for many people, has put a big smile on everyone's face at the academy and typifies the attitude of all the staff, pupils and their families."
