STAFFORD Rangers Youth U18s moved clear at the head of their County Minor Youth table with a quality performance against Crewe’s Alex Soccer Centre (ASC).
The Boro registered an impressive victory, in a game that was a great credit to the league. Both teams gave their all in a superb encounter.
However, it was Rangers who secured the points, having dominated the first period, with Alex Curtis, Tom Vaughan, Harry Wightman and Alex Hannan going close.
It was after the break when Rangers broke the deadlock when Mat Smith beat the ASC defence and the keeper to head home. Soon after, Curtis was brought down in the box, but the spot kick was saved.
Just gone the hour mark, ASC burst into life and produced some slick football. For 15 minutes they controlled the ball, but resolute defending kept them at bay.
Rangers were playing on the break and with ASC leaving gaps, Jack Edwards cut in from the left and smashed the ball home from 20 yards, before Hannan sealed the win with a header.
On the goal trail were Rangers U13s who emerged comfortable 7-3 winners against Wyrley Jaguars in the Lichfield league.
The Jaguars had not previously dropped a point but they were put in their place as Boro had Josh Stack, Ryan Douglas (both two), Tim Khayat, Declan Arber and George Foster netting.
