Trafford 1 Stafford Rangers 2

Relegated Stafford Rangers withstood a late Trafford onslaught to take home a deserved three points on Saturday.

Rangers shocked the home side with a goal in the eighth minute. A free-kick from Ian Craney to the far post was headed back into the danger area by Dan Cope and full back Andy Griffiths was on hand to power home a header.

Mid-table Trafford missed a decent chance when Luke Heron shot straight at Boro keeper Andrew Jones. Rangers doubled their advantage in the 31st minute. Teenage striker Jack Edwards turned his defender inside out before forcing a fine save from Hayden Buckley-Smith, the rebound falling to Griffiths who tapped home his and Rangers' second.

For all their possession, Trafford failed to test Jones until the 79th minute. A cross from the right fell invitingly for Martyn Andrews who netted from near the penalty spot.

Nia Bayunu hit the post with a header but Rangers held on for the three points.

Rangers may have been relegated already. but this performance showed they are not going down without a fight.

Graham Heathcote's young guns will now aim to close their home programme on a similar note when entertaining Nantwich Town on Easter Monday (3pm).
