Robbery at Rugeley supermarket

POLICE are investigating a robbery at a Rugeley supermarket this morning.

Officers were called to the Co-op on Springfield Road, Rugeley, following after an attack on security guards carrying cash just after 7.10am this morning, Wednesday.

It is believed three men, one armed with a crowbar, threatened the security guards who were inside the store attending to the cash machine.

The offenders were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered.

One man, believed to be a customer, was pushed to the ground and was treated by paramedics at the scene. He did not require hospital treatment.

It is believed the offenders left the scene in a white Audi.

The shop was closed this morning for scenes of crime officers to attend, and detectives are taking witness statements and carrying out inquiries at the scene.

At this stage it is not known what may have been stolen.
