COMMUTERS on the A51 in Staffordshire faced long delays this morning after a van overturned between Lichfield and Rugeley, partially blocking the road.

The accident happened at 7.30am at the Church Hill junction at Longdon Green, south of Rugeley. Only one vehicle, a white Ford Transit van, was involved and the driver escaped without injuries.

But the accident caused long tailbacks through the morning rush hour, with queues to to the A513 junction in one direction and to the Bardy Lane junction in the other direction on the A51.

A Staffordshire Fire Service spokeswoman said crews from Rugeley and Lichfield were called out to the scene, to secure the van and clear a fuel spill on the road. The Lichfield crew remained at the scene for over an hour while waiting for a recovery truck to remove the van
