A STAFFORD estate’s traders have joined forces to bring festive light to their community.

For the first time Parkside’s shopping precinct is bedecked with Christmas lights, and a real Christmas tree has been installed in the centre.

The festive fun was the brainchild of Aimee Foster from Parkside’s Sienna beauty salon, who worked with residents’ association Action Parkside. Stafford Sainsbury’s supplied an artificial tree, which was replaced with a real tree by Stafford Borough Council, while Tesco donated decorations.

A light switch-on was held on Tuesday afternoon and Parkside residents were invited to join in the fun, with mulled wine from Stone Road Co-op, mince pies from Parkside Bakery and children’s refreshments from Parkside Post Office.

More than 40 youngsters from Parkside Primary School entertained the crowd with a selection of Christmas songs and carols.

On Saturday there will be more festive fun at the shopping precinct when Stafford Concert Band perform from 10am til 12noon. Stafford Mayor Angela Loughran is also attending and refreshments will be available.
