RESIDENTS living near a potential new Stafford housing site have hit out at the developers’ decision to hold a public consulation in a village more than six miles away.
Up to 115 new homes are being proposed for land off Beaconside and San- don Road by BNP Paribas Real Estate.
But residents living on Sandon Road, next to the site, told the Newsletter that the public consultation for the plans was held at Chebsey Village Hall, on the other side of Stafford near Eccleshall.
They added that they did not find out about the event until a neighbour saw a flyer in their local Post Office - while residents in Tithe Barn Road, which is further away from the site, had received leaflets in the post.
Ian Roscoe, of Sandon Road, attended the consultation at Chebsey and said organisers were asked why it was being held there.
“They said they couldn’t find anywhere nearer,” he told the Newsletter.
“But Hopton Village Hall is available. I think it was so people wouldn’t know.”
Mr Roscoe said the proposed site had gas mains underneath the ground, which could cause issues if the land was built on, and there were already roadsafety issues on the Sandon Road, which has a steep bend as it heads north.
No-one from BNP Paribas was available to comment as the Newsletter went to press.
