All change for village cricketers

Wholesale changes have been introduced at Church Eaton Cricket Club (CECC), who will start the 2010 campaign in the Stone and District League.

The club has stepped down from the Staffs Club Championship and entered two senior sides in the Stone league, the first team captained by Andy Greaves in the premier section.

And the newly-appointed skipper was in a confident mood this week, with the season still over two months away.

“We have a solid new side this year with some fresh new faces.

Hopefully we will be heading for promotion,” said Greaves. Rob Jones will captain the seconds in division one.

CECC launch their adult net practice sessions on Wednesday, at Weston Road HS, Stafford, from 7- 8.30pm, running for six weeks, excluding the school half term.

Any new players wishing to join, or attend nets, should contact either Rob Jones on 01785 213152 or Andy Greaves on 07983 356826.

The village club is also keen to encourage any budding Staffordshire cricketers to junior coaching sessions every Monday at Stafford Grammar School (6-7.30pm). For more information call Dave Bowers on 07847 003303.

Eccleshall CC have confirmed the signing of Australian batsman, Cameron Eccles as their new overseas player.

He plays for Gordon District CC in Sydney, where he opens the batting for their First Grade team. In recent years he has scored well over 500 runs each season.
