Amasal B closing in on ladies bowls title

WITH the 2012 bowls season drawing to a close, Amasal B still look favourites for the Stafford Ladies League title.

In their latest fixture they ran out 6-2 winners at Greenway B, helped by the perfect 21-0 score from the pairing of S Ward and P Jones.

With two matches remaining, Amasal B, who have lost just once this season, lead the way by ten points from Burton Manor A, well clear of third place Penkridge.

While Penkridge’s latest scheduled fixture at Little Stoke was postponed due to bad weather, the Manor had a free week.

Fourth place Greenway A came unstuck, going down 6-2 at County Officers, for whom L Williams won her singles 21-10.

In a basement clash, Stafford A pulled off a fine 5-3 success at home to Burton Manor B, with the pairing of J Troon and C Meacock posting a fine 21-2 victory. Universal ran out 6-2 victors at Amasal A.

It is down to the final week of the season in the Stafford Veterans’ League division two, with just a point separating top side Amasal and nearest rivals for the title, Alstom B.

In their latest fixtures, Amasal entertained third place Rowley Park and emerged 6-2 winners, thanks to the doubles pair of C Pownall and P Harris 21-2.

Alstom B kept up the chase with a vital 5-3 success at home to Stafford B, helped by N Johnson and S Hall’s 21-11 card.

Universal B moved level on points with Rowley Park after emerging 5-3 victors over Penkridge B. Best for the Doxey team were M & G Glover with a 21-4 score.

There was a fourth league win for Little Stoke CC as they saw off the challenge of fellow strugglers County Officers B 5-3.

Alstom C and Penkridge A shared the spoils in a 4-4 draw.

The remaining fixture in division two saw Stafford C defeat visiting Alstom D 5-3, helped by J Dunning and R Whitfield’s impressive 21-1 score.

In the top flight, champions Victoria Park were without a match, while Greenway A moved second after defeating Stafford A 5-3.

Best result of the week was achieved by Hatherton A who hit Victoria Park 7-1, thanks to G Deakin and D Orton 21-4.

Other scores Greenway B 4 Hatherton B 4 (E Mobley 21-1), County Officers A 6 (I Hird 21-3) Alstom A 2.
