Broken arm didn't stop Nina

Cross country runners are hardy souls - especially if the ground is frozen and you have recently broken your arm.

That was the case for Stafford Harriers' Nina Skilton who took in Saturday's Midland Counties race on Stafford Common.

She broke her arm in a mountain bike spill a few weeks ago, but still turned out for her club in the senior ladies' race.

Nina battled round the course, only to fall badly in a notorious ditch. Although covered head to foot in mud, she battled on superbly and led home her team in 43rd place in 38.33.

She was well supported by club mates, Clare Skelton 55th (39.44), Chris Skellern 90th (42.52) and Lydia Atkins 110th (45.56) as the Harriers finished a creditable eighth team out of 19 on the day.

Nine Harriers men turned out, with Tom Hobbins first home in 160th place (52.04) followed by George Mafu in 187th (53.27) and Chris Ross in 205th (54.34).

Other Harriers were Paul Douglas (244th, 57.00), Keith Skelton (257th, 58.13), Dave Marsden (284th, 61.12), Chris Owen (286th, 61.27), Eddie Smith (315th, 64.55) and Bill Chidlow (317th, 65.01). The team came 24th on the day out of 34 teams.
