Celebrations under way for Milford CC thirds

Written byBy Dave McLean

MILFORD Hall CC thirds were celebrating this week after clinching their respective Staffs Club Championship title.

PROMOTED PENKRIDGE...Off to flying start

They secured the division 2A crown by defeating nearest challengers Codsall by five wickets.

Codsall were the only unbeaten side in the division at the start of the game but were soon in trouble against the accurate bowling of Thus Dissanayaka and Alex Stenson (2-20).

Dissanayaka took his season’s tally to 45 wickets with 3-32 while Ras Gamage snapped up 3-13 as Codsall were dismissed for just 77.

The highlight of the Milford fielding was a stunning one handed catch by Chris Elsley which arrived just a couple of overs after an excellent effort off his own bowling by Stenson.

Milford did not find batting that easy against the Codsall attack but were grateful to a composed 31 not out from 13 year old Aaron Afford to see them to a five wicket success.

At fourth team level, Milford emerged with credit despite losing their match away to Codsall.

In a season where many clubs have conceded fixtures, Milford pulled out all the stops to field a side with chairman Dave Smith and daughter Hannah being called into action.

Dave Smith scored 27 and Ben Grimshaw 20 but the innings was built around a score of 59 from Tim Davis as Milford made 155 all out.

Tom Webb then produced excellent figures of 4-29 but his efforts were not enough to stop Codsall from recording a four wicket win with Danny Bargota not out on 90 at the close.

With one match remaining, Milford fourths are currently fourth in division four.
