STAFFORD Ladies 1st XV’S determination and training paid off once more on Sunday with a hard earned 34-25 win against Five Ways Ladies.

After a slow start, with Five Ways scoring soon into the match, Stafford quickly sorted their defence out, took the ball and raced over the line.

The Stafford back line, improving every week and blossoming under the leadership of fly-half Joanna Murphy, have gone from strength to strength and are much more confident in tackles and are more defiant when being tackled.

Stafford number 13, Zoe Trimm impressed once again with several blistering runs down the pitch, raising the score and morale.

The ever-improving Stafford forwards made their mark with Rosalind Wiggins and Reanne Wood sealing each breakdown and removing defenders from the rucks and mauls with ease.

Other Stafford tries were scored by Lauren Thompson and Tessa Hibbs. Player of the game was awarded to Sam Bricknell whose speed and sturdy defence is testament to training, confidence and perseverance.

Anyone keen on giving ladies’ rugby a go should note that training is on a Wednesday at the club’s Newport Road ground at 7pm.

Alternatively you could try touch rugby at King Edward VI High School on a Thursday night at 6.30pm (£2 entry).

This is open to all ages, gender, experience level and fitness. Call Tess Hibbs for details on 07817 385054.

Girls’ rugby training is 7pm on Mondays, age 12-17 years, call Carla Lund on 07956 912844.
