Double hat-trick boost for Dragons

Written byDave McLean

STAFFORD Town Ladies slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat when taking on a strong Florence side this week.

Town produced some good football, with player of the match Nat Price netting both their goals, but it was Florence who took the honours.

Stafford Dragons disabled squad took in their latest group of matches in the Staffordshire Ability Counts League and finished the day with two wins and two defeats, the victories coming against Able Too A 5-3 and Port Vale A 6-3.

In the opening success, Tom Binns led the way with a splendid hat-trick and there were additional goals from Jonathan Buckless and James Banks.

The Dragons went one better in the second fixture, as goals from Buckless (three), Binns, Lee Furey and Jack Bennett secured a first win over Vale A in four years.

In their third fixture against Port Vale Deaf, the Dragons went down 1-0, the only goals of the game scored in the final five minutes. Dragons lost by the same score at the hands of Able Too B, with Danny Kent excelling in the Stafford goal.

Town Lionesses were unable to stop the charge of unbeaten champions Wyrley Pumas and went down 8-0.

But despite the final scoreline a depleted Town side gave a very good account of themselves, with Anais Bullock, Libby Vincent, Abbie Butler and Lucy Butler keeping Wyrley at bay early on.

It was a battling display by the Lionesses and the final score was not a true reflection of their performance.
