CARETAKER manager Liam James was forced into several changes as Eccleshall slumped to a 7-0 home defeat against Oldham Boro, in the North West Counties league.

James welcomed back last season's leading scorer Tom Wakefield, but it was Oldham who took an early lead through Joe Heap - and never looked back!.
By half-time, the visitors had added four further goals, through James Curley (penalty) 19 minutes, Lee Knowles (33), Curley (34 and 43).
The only responses from Eccleshall were mainly from Wakefield, who had one good effort that found the sidenetting, while another in the first half brought a fine save out of Oldham keeper Tim Elford who tipped the ball round for a corner.
Eccleshall were the first to show in the second half when Peter Williams ran onto a header by Wakefield but his weak shot went wide.
Eccleshall made an effort to get back into the game but were knocked back again on 55 minutes when Plant made a good save but Curley was there to knock in the rebound.
Oldham made it seven on 73 minutes when Sam Freakes's shot from the edge of the box crept inside the post and into the net. It was certainly a day to forget for the Eagles.
In the Staffs FA Vase, Eccleshall AFC bowed out 2-1 at Bilston Town after conceding a goal in stoppage time.
On Saturday, Eccleshall visit Norton in the league (3pm), while Eccleshall AFC visit Newcastle Town in the Staffs County League (2.30pm).
