Festival fun at Stafford for rugby youngsters

STAFFORD Rugby Club held a mini rugby festival at its home ground on Sunday.

RUGBYThe age groups involved were between under 7s through to under 12s with up to 10 teams in each league. Teams came from Burntwood, Cannock, Newport, Newcastle, Willenhall, Wolverhampton, Telford, Trentham, Telford and Longton.

For most teams this was their first competitive action of the season with the serious matches starting from next weekend.

The president of Staffordshire RUFC was on hand to award the winning teams the medals along with sponsors Towergate Insurance and Martin Lennon( club chairman) and Brian Gayton ( junior chairman)

Winners: U8 - Telford won; U9 - Newport; U10 - Wolverhampton; U11 - Wolverhampton and Trentham; U12 - Newport.

At the end of the day Stafford Seniors presented two cheques to local charities - cash raised from a charity match recently played at the club. Child victims of Crime` £1000 and The Parkinson’s Trust received £400.

The final showpiece of the day was a home game for the Colts who beat Camp Hill 22- 15.
