Former Liverpool star at Rangers sportman's evening

TWO major fund-raising events are planned by Stafford Rangers Independent Supporters Trust (Stripes) between now and the end of the season.

First up is a sportsman’s evening at the social club on Friday. March 1 (7pm), with guest speaker, former Liverpool star Ronnie Whelan.

 

The event will also feature a leading comic, while John Stiles, son of former Manchester United and England midfielder Nobby, will be MC on the evening.

Tickets cost £20 each, including a fish and chip supper. For more details and to book tickets, contact Phil Bennett on 01785 602014.

Phil is also the person to contact for those wishing to attend the next event on the Stripes calendar, a big darts night, also at the Boro social club, on Thursday, April 11.

The evening features two well known professionals, Steve ‘The Bronzed Adonis’

Beaton and Wayne ‘The Wanderer’ Jones. There are two ticket prices for this special

evening, £15 and £25 (VIP). The higher price ticket includes a meet and

greet with Beaton and Jones, in the social club’s Legends Suite prior to the action.

Front row seats are also guaranted as is the chance to take on either professional on the night. There will also be a raffle and memorabilia auction.

STAFFORD1stXVarewithoutaleague fixture this weekend but have arranged a special match against a touring squad.

The Castlefields outfit entertain the 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment side in a friendly, with a 2.15pm kick off. Stafford are expected to field a strong side.

The 3rd Battalion, currently stationed in Germany, are taking in a tour before their deployment to Afghanistan later this year.

They began their short tour of the Midlands with a match against Sutton Coldfield last weekend, followed by a midweek fixture with Lichfield and a training session with Wheaton Aston and Penkridge RUFC.

The 3rd Battalion are expected to bring with them their mascot, Lance Corporal Derby, a Swaledale ram. A regiment support team, who recruit for the armed forces, is also expected to attend the game.

This weekend, St Leonards 1st XV entertain Leek 2nd XV in a friendly. Saints’ scheduled league game at Stourport this week was postponed.

Eccleshall 1st XV are on their travels in Midlands 3 West (North) on Saturday with a trip to Cleobury Mortimer (2.15pm).
