STONE Old Alleynians kept up their good league form with a fourth successive victory in West Midlands One on Saturday.
The Old Boys entertained table-topping Mahal in a tasty encounter at Yarnfield and emerged impressive 2-0 victors.
Against a good footballing side, who also were very good at closing their opponents down, the Old Boys had to be at their very best throughout.
The visitors dictated the opening 20 minutes but good defending by the home side, helped by a couple of missed chances by Mahal, kept the game scoreless.
Alleynians gradually matched the pace of their opponents and went close through Chris Heard from a cleverly worked short corner and a shot from Rob Winstanley.
Mahal nearly scored again on 35 minutes, the ball being scrambled clear after keeper Dan Hulme had been rounded.
At the start of the second half it was Mahal first out of the blocks and Hulme made two very good saves.
However it did not take long for the Old Alleynians to match their opponents and the match became a physical encounter.
In the end though, Stone OA broke the deadlock when Danny Heard raced clear and crossed for Lewis Ratcliffe to find the net.
Stone OA sealed the win with a second goal from Matt Newman, with just five minutes to go. The Yarnfield side will look to extend their winning form at Wyrley on Saturday (3pm).
