Fourths win through in thriller
Stone hockey Club fourths were involved in an 11-goal thriller when entertaining Wolverhampton fifths this week.
After early pressure, Stone took the lead when a measured pass from Steve Futter picked out Dave Illidge to score.
Keiron Delaney made it 2-0 for Stone, before Wolves cut the deficit just before the interval.
After the restart, Stone moved into a 5-1 lead as Delaney added two more to complete his hat-trick and Illidge made it a nap hand.
Although Wolves grabbed a second goal, it looked like a comfortable victory for Stone as Futter made it six of the best.
But Wolves were not finished and they set up a tense finish, adding three more goals, including two penalty flicks to make it 6-5, as Stone held out to claim their fifth league win of the season.
Earlier in the campaign, Stone lost out 4-2 to the same Wolves side.
This Saturday the Enson Lane team will chase a league double against local rivals Stafford fourths.
Stone seconds took the lead in their latest fixture at home to Shrewsbury with a 15th minute strike from Jim Roberts.
However, the Shropshire side levelled within three minutes and then netted two more in as many minutes to make it 3-1 at half-time, before adding a fourth in the second period.
Stone thirds visited Bridgnorth, but lost 2-1 in a closely fought game. Jim Dawson was the player on target for the visitors.
