Mike Keeling (pictured), who was born deaf in both ears, has entered two road races, two triathlons and an Ironman event to raise money for the National Deaf Children’s Society and Rotary International.

“Hopefully there will be other events but these are the ones I have entered so far,” said the 33-year-old, who is head of PE at Stafford Sports College.

He will start out in the Stafford Half Marathon in March, finishing with the Ironman UK in Bolton in early August. Other races entered so far are the Outlaw Half Ironman triathlon (Nottingham), St Michaels 10k (Stone) and Derby Triathlon.

“The Ironman is an extreme endurance event consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and the full marathon distance of 26.2 miles, all of which has to be completed in 17 hours,” said Keeling, who runs with Stone Master Marathoners and recently became of member of Stafford Tri Club.

Keeling trains 10-12 hours a week and is looking for individual and busness sponsors at www.justgiving.com/Mikekeeling- Ironman UK or by texting IMUK79 to 70070.
