League double for the Boro

Written byDave McLean

STAFFORD Rangers moved back into the top ten in the Evo Stik premier on Saturday after running out 2-0 winners at Ilkeston.

The hosts were enjoying a good run of form but Rangers were determined to get their game back on track and Fabrice Kasiama again impressed, posing Ilkeston several problems.

Kasiama volleyed just over, before the experienced Gary Ricketts was denied by Boro keeper Adam Alcock.

Five minutes from the break Rangers broke through when Danny Quinn set up Karl Ashton and he fired home.

Rangers continued to create chances in the second half, with Ashton and Liam Walshe going close before a corner from Kasiama was headed home by Walshe for the visitor's second.

Ilkeston threatened in the closing stages, but Rangers held out to finish with a cleansheet and move tenth in the table, just four points off the play-offs, although some of their rivals have matches in hand.

The win was only Rangers third on their travels this season and it completed a fine league double over Ilkeston .

On Tuesday, Rangers have arranged a friendly agaiinst Midland Combination outfit Stafford Town, at Evans Park (7.30pm).

Next league fixture for Greg Clowes' side is at home to Frickley Athletic on February 9 (3pm).
