STAFFORD Town Lionesses bowed out of the U10 league cup this week, going down 2-0 at the hands of Wyrley Meerkats.

It was a surprise reverse for the Town side but they were able to take several positives from the game.
The Lionesses had not previously lost to the Meerkats and opened in a confident mood with good attacking play from Ashleigh Hopson, Mia Patterson and Holly Rhodes.
A well taken free kick from Hopson was kept out by the Wyrley defence as the Meerkats looked to surprise Town on the counter attack.
Good wing play by Lucy Butler and Patterson continued to set up chances for Town but it remained goalless at the break.
The deadlock was finally broken by the Meerkats, but not before Town keeper Amelia Goddard had produced several fine saves. Just five minutes remained when the Meerkats netted their first.
With two minutes to go, Town were caught out again as Wyrley sealed the victory with a second.
