DESPITE the wintry weather, a number of Cannock and Stafford AC’s youngters travelled to Nuneaton on Sunday for the latest West Midlands Young Athletes league meeting.

On the day, C and S U11 girls finished third overall out of 15 teams, led home by Olivia Osborne in 9th place, from Isabelle Kelly 17th, Victoria
Bradbury 23td, Jessica Harrison 37th and Freya Harper 40th.
There was also a good performance from the club’s U13 girls, who were fourth overall, thanks to Iris Davies (pictured) who was ninth, ahead of Rachael Jones 11th, Elisha Walker 14th, Jessica Ward 68th and Sophie Ward 71st.
Giving the U11 girls good support were Alice Richards 50th, Olivia Corcoran 58th, Elizabeth Aston 65th, Emily Grimes 85th and Scarlett Richards 91st.
Backing up the counters in the U13 race were Ella-Mae Smith 74th and Anya Butler 81st.
C and S had one sole runner in the U11 boys race and Harry Hardy-Smith impressed when finishing fifth in a field of 68 runners.
Ryan Ashforth was just one place down in sixth spot in the U15 boys, supported by Hugo Beattie 45th and Matthew Collins 48th.
Others turning out in extremely difficult conditions were, Phillippa Nock (U15 girls) 28th, Morgan Hammond 50th, Ben Payne (both U13 boys) 54th, James Russell (u17 men) 23rd.
Overall team results on the day saw Cannock and Stafford down in 12th spot, victory going to Rugby and Northampton AC, ahead of Halesowen (2nd) and Birchfield Harriers (3rd).
