Rangers have to settle for FA Cup replay

A SUPERB second half goal from midfielder Michael Carr kept Stafford Rangers in this season's FA Cup as the Marston Road men earned a replay away to Stourport Swifts on Saturday.

Stourport, who play their football in the Midland Alliance, two leagues lower than the Boro, grabbed a late first half lead when Lewis Pountney forced the ball home following a corner.

However, midway through the second half, Rangers got back on level terms when Carr found the net with a memorable overhead kick.

It was no more than Rangers deserved as they controlled long periods of the second period, but they missed several good chances.

Carr, Ryan Dicker and new signing, substitute Liam Newman all had opportunities to win it for Rangers, but in the closing stages, Lewis Bridges, on as a substitute, wasted a late chance for the home side.

The teams will now have to go through it all again in Tuesday night's replay at Marston Road (ko 7.45pm).
