STAFFORD Rangers had to settle for a disappointing 1-1 home draw against basement outfit Burscough on Saturday.
Rangers took the early initiative and grabbed a deserved lead on 16 minutes when Sean Kinsella curled in a right wing free kick that beat Burscough keeper Tim Horn at the near post.
But Rangers, who had earlier had an effort cleared off the line when Ryan Dicker met a Kinsella corner, were almost pegged back when Burscough winger Ryan Wignall's near post effort was blocked by home keeper Adam Alcock.
Rob Stevenson was thwarted by Horn at the near post, just after the break, before Burscough shocked the home side by drawing level.
A throw in from Anthony Glover was flicked on to Will Jones, who beat Alcock with a volley on the turn on 59 minutes.
Almost immediately, Rangers had a great chance to restore the lead, but new striker Matt Jukes headed wide from just six yards out.
In the closing stages, Glynn Blackhurst drilled wide for the home side, before Chris Tyson volleyed just over for Burscough.
In stoppage time, Chris Morris went close for Rangers, but Horn got down well to block his near post drive.
Next up for Rangers is an away fixture at Buxton on Wednesday night (7.45pm).
